Email reserve.spe.dallas@gmail.com or call Julie Deese at 972-673-2333 Abstract Fishing: the taboo practice often resulting in lost time and revenue is not a four letter word. We are often held captive and made victims by a restriction in our wellbore. Like purchasing insurance, fishing can and should be a preplanned event. Prior preparation saves time, reduces cost, and relieves stress. Execution of the fishing job, applying industry proven “Fishing Best Practices” minimizes the time and costs involved, returning the well to production.
Biography
Johnny Hicks is a 40 year industry veteran who has spent most of his career involved in fishing services. Previously at Baker Oil Tools, he is now Business Development Manager at Eastern Fishing and Rental Tools for the Dallas-Fort Worth market. Johnny’s primary career challenge has always been to save time and reduce costs during a fishing operation.
Date: Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at 11:30 AM (Lunch then speaker) Location: Ellison Miles Institute, Brookhaven College (Map) Speaker: Jack Angel President & CEO Duraseal Coatings Company, LLC. Topic: "The Emerging Role Of Nanotechnology In Corrosion and Erosion Protection"
Cost: $18 if SPE member paying electronically in advance, all others $25 Please help for good head count by registering on Monday
http://www.spedallas.org/luncheon.htm
Email reserve.spe.dallas@gmail.com or call Julie Deese at 972-673-2333 Abstract The term “Nano” is derived from the Greek word “dwarf”. It serves as a prefix, for the dimension on atomic scale. This discussion will be on the role of nanotechnology in corrosion prevention with respect to metals in oil & gas environments. In the spirit of innovation, the objective of applying this technology is to safely and economically extend the life of the asset by minimizing and/or eliminating destructive corrosive forces. Nano-molecular coating provides the unique ability to chemically-bind with the many free ions within the material as well as on the substrate. This allows the product to become a permanent, integral part of the substrate due to the formation of new molecules driven to reaction completion.
The speaker will explore the ongoing nanotechnology advances in corrosion prevention. Information will be presented to highlight recent performance of nano O&G solutions in several unconventional basins; specifically, areas where the technology has proven itself against conventional coating technology and chemical injection programs, and where the coatings have not lived up to their expectation. The presentation will include sustaining advances from these lessons learned, and look at applications outside of the wellbore.
Biography Jack Angel is the President and CEO of DuraSeal Coatings Company. He began his oilfield career in 1982 and has worked extensively throughout the world including formal assignments in Canada and the Far East. As a veteran of the oil & gas industry Jack spent 25 years at various Baker Hughes companies, including Baker Hughes Inteq, Baker Oil Tools, QuantX Wellbore Instrumentation, Baker Hughes Pipeline Management Group, and Baker Hughes, Inc. During his tenure, he served in diverse leadership positions managing field operations, marketing, business development, sales, pipeline integrity, wellbore solutions, and new product development. He was responsible for introducing a number of revolutionary technologies including short-radius MWD, multilateral well systems and remote-actuated (intelligent) completions. In 2002 he was awarded Hart’s E&P Meritorious Award for Engineering Innovation.
After Baker Hughes, Jack served as Executive Vice President of Business Development with Sensortran (in-well optical monitoring solutions) where he had full operational and financial responsibility. He stayed with this organization until it was acquired by Halliburton in 2010. Prior to joining DuraSeal, Jack was the Director of Oil & Gas for US Silica where he introduced the next generation of resin-coated proppants and was a key player in expanding that company’s growth in the oil & gas sector.
Jack has served on the board of the Pipeline Pigging Suppliers Association, was a charter member of both ICON (Intelligent Completions on the Net), and IWIS (Intelligent Well Interface Standards), and served for several years on the ATCE technical paper selection committee for the Society of Petroleum Engineers. He continues to be an active member of SPE, API and NACE. He earned his MBA from Texas A&M University and bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering Technology from Memorial University in Newfoundland, Canada.
